Purpose
The Staff Spotlight program is a feature in the district’s weekly internal newsletter, the Friday Extra, designed to celebrate the diverse talents, passions, and accomplishments of RLAS-116 staff beyond their school-related roles. The goal is to foster a positive, inclusive culture and build stronger personal connections among staff members.
Scope
This SOP applies to all staff of RLAS-116 and is managed by the Communications Department.
Steps
Submission Guidelines

Staff can nominate themselves or others by completing a form that includes:
- A description of the activity, talent, or interest
- Relevant photos or links (if applicable)
- Consent to publish the information to the Friday Extra

Eligible Content for Spotlight Features

Examples of spotlight-eligible activities include:
- Artistic achievements (e.g., published books, photography, painting)
- Community involvement (e.g., volunteering, cultural tours)
- Entrepreneurship (e.g., owning a small business not marketed within the district)
- Personal milestones or recognitions received from outside organizations
Steps
Content That Will Not Be Featured

In alignment with Board Policy 8:25, the following are not eligible for publication in the Friday Extra:
- Political Material
- Content that supports or promotes any political candidate, party, or issue not part of the curriculum.
- Inappropriate Content
- Submissions containing obscene, vulgar, defamatory, or indecent language or imagery.
- Content that could disrupt the educational environment or infringe on student/staff rights or privacy
- Copyright or Trademark Issues
- Content that violates intellectual property rights will not be accepted.

Additional Considerations

The Communications Department reserves the right to edit submissions for length, clarity, and appropriateness.

Staff must not be pressured to participate and/or purchase items or services noted within a spotlight feature.

Staff currently involved in active disciplinary matters are not eligible for participation in the Staff Spotlight program during the period of disciplinary review or action.

Final decisions regarding inclusion are at the discretion of the Superintendent or designee.
